Pollution Control Dept. to inspect shops selling, reparing and modifying exhaustion pipes of motorcycles The Department of Pollution Control will inspect shops that sell, repair, and modify motorcycles’ exhaustion pipes that are below standards. Officials have found out that many motorcycles in 50 districts of Bangkok have created excessive noise pollution over the last couple of months. Mrs. Mingkwan Vitchayarangsarit, the Director of Air Quality and Noise Management Bureau under the Pollution Control Department, said that the officials inspected vehicles in Bangkok between May 1st and June 30th. Following the inspection, 22,799 public buses in the capital were found to have excessive noise pollution, in which 457 of them were minibuses. 368 buses have been ordered for a temporary suspension until it has met the noise pollution standard. Officials will continue to inspect the vehicles in Bangkok. Furthermore, shops and stores that sell, repair, and modify motorcycles’ exhaustion pipes, which are below standards, will be penalized. According to the inspection by the Pollution Control Department, 887 motorcycles have been detected to produce loud noise pollution. People who are troubled from vehicles’ noise pollution can notify the officials by calling 1650 hotline service.
