Turn down the noise
For over 4 hours on a Sunday afternoon, the area in which I try to live has been harangued by a loud, loudspeaker. This technique of brainwashing by speaking continuously and loudly is, to say the least, old-fashioned. It is also intrusive and stressful; shutting windows, turning up the TV, turning on the air-con and using ear plugs _ all fail to block out this noise pollution.
The result of such a disturbance may either cause individuals to become immune to noise and the brain cells are dulled, or become totally frustrated and violence occurs.
It is time Thai society spoke out (excuse the pun) and encouraged a peaceful culture, respecting the space and lifestyle choice of all citizens.
Noise pollution is a major reason why many people leave Bangkok. All problems have solutions. Everyone has a right to speak. Just do it quietly and speak to the people who wish to hear _ without disturbing others.
