Floating Particals (dust)

The difference between big and small particles is distinguished.

In accordance to some directives big particles are solid floating particles that cannot be inhaled. Big particles (particles of 10-100 µm) are stopped and caught by the nose and pharynx and are partly swallowed. Big particles can cause trouble at depositon and can create irritation of the eyes.

More fine particles, 0,01-10 µm penetrate the airways and can have a disadvantageous impact on the lung function.

Beside this general phisical impact on the airways, some particles can bring a specific response which is dependent on the chemical composition.

Locally in the airways and lungs both acute impact, such as irritation or an allergic response, and chronic impact can appear, such as cancer.

If the agentia are incorporated by means of the lungs in other parts of the human body, it can also elsewhere have a health threatning impact.
